About our Local Area

Playas del Coco, which translates to Coconut Beaches in English, is situated on the Pacific Northwest coast of Costa Rica, within the province of Guanacaste. Guanacaste is one of the country’s seven provinces. Renowned as the Gold Coast, this area boasts numerous golden sand beaches, breathtaking coastline, and a rich variety of wildlife along the Pacific shoreline. Additionally, it is home to the prestigious Papagayo Peninsula, famous for its luxury resorts, a world-renowned golf course, a marina, and its allure to celebrity tourism.

Guanacaste, with a population of approximately 350,000, experiences a significant surge in numbers due to tourism and seasonal residents. The province boasts a unique climate, claiming the smallest annual rainfall and earning the title of the driest region in the country. From November to April, rainfall is minimal, whereas May to October sees some precipitation, peaking in September and October. Liberia serves as the capital city of Guanacaste, conveniently bordered by Nicaragua, just a short one-and-a-half-hour drive away. The Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport, known as Liberia (LIR), is the local airport, a mere twenty-five-minute drive from Playas del Coco and its surroundings.
